Office Visits and Procedures

Upon arrival at the office, please register with the receptionists. They will help you fill out a patient visit form, make a copy of your insurance card and inform you physician and technicians of your arrival. Because insurance carriers and plans change frequently, we will make a copy of your current card each time you visit. When you have completed the patient visit form, please return it to the receptionist, or give it to your attending nurse or technician.

When your physician is ready to examine you, you will be called and escorted to an examining/treatment room by a nurse or certified ophthalmic assistant for a pre-exam interview and procedures such as administration of eyedrops and removal of contact lenses. Since pre-examination medications require a little time to take effect, you may be escorted to a special waiting area to relax with others until you are ready.

Next, you will be returned to an examination/treatment room where your physician and staff will examine your eyes, initiate appropriate test and corrective procedures, and discuss other aspects of your vision and health. Upon completion of your visit, a staff member will escort you to the patient checkout area to review your instructions, and if necessary, make further appointments or arrangements for you. Routine visits usually take less than an hour; however, the initial evaluation of a patient with serious eye disease may require a longer time for discussion with your doctor as well as the examination. If office treatments are planned, these may take extra time also.
