Whether you are a new patient or a friend for many years, we are honored that you have chosen us to provide care for your eyes. We pledge to make every effort and exhaust any resource to give you the best total eye care available.
What To Expect
On the day of your exam, please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time. Since we need a complete medical history, please bring a copy of all current medications. Upon arrival at the office, please register with the receptionists. They will provide you with a patient information form, then make a copy of your insurance card and inform the physician and technicians of your arrival. Because insurance carriers and plans change frequently, please bring your insurance information and we will make a copy of your current insurance card each time you visit. When you have completed the patient information form, please return it to the receptionist, or give it to the assistant. The information forms are also available on-line. You can print these, fill them out, and bring them with you to your appointment.
You will be called and escorted to an examination room by an ophthalmic assistant for a pre-exam interview and preliminary procedures. After these test, the assistant will instill dilation eye drops so the doctor can perform a thorough internal examination of your eyes. These drops take 15-30 minutes to take affect, so the assistant may move you to a darker room to wait.
When the dilation drops have taken affect, you will be returned to an examination room where your physician will examine your eyes. After a thorough eye examination, your doctor will review the results of your test and discuss appropriate options with you. If more extensive treatment is necessary, such as surgery or further testing, the doctor and his staff will discuss these options with you and your family. Upon completion of your visit, a staff member will escort you to the checkout area to make further appointments or arrangements for you. If other office treatments or surgeries are planned, these may be scheduled at this time. You can then visit our optical department if you are updating your glasses prescription.
Routine ocular examinations usually take about an hour, depending on the doctor, the number of test, and the complexity of test required to fully evaluate your vision and the health of your eyes.
While most people can drive safely after being dilated, some patients feel more comfortable if a friend or family member drives the automobile after their exam and dilation. If you are alone, and do not feel comfortable driving after being dilated, please alert a staff member and they will help make arrangements for you.
